Pr. Julia Zaikina
Julia V. Zaikina is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Iowa State University. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry from Moscow State University, Russia. She obtained Ph.D. degree in Inorganic and Solid State Chemistry from Moscow State University and Max-Plank-Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids (MPI CPfS, Dresden, Germany). Afterward, Julia had her first postdoctoral stint at Florida State University and then joined the group of Prof. Susan M. Kauzlarich at UC Davis for the second postdoctoral stint. Julia joined the faculty at Iowa State as an Assistant Professor in August 2017. Her research interests lie in the area of inorganic and materials chemistry. Particularly, she is interested in non-conventional synthesis routes to complex solids, including intermetallic borides, and understanding their atomic and electronic structure to create new functional materials that address current scientific challenges in sustainable energy. She is a co-author of 50 papers cited in Web of Science with over 900 citations. She is a recipient of NSF CAREER award from National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research (NSF DMR) and 2021 Margaret C. Etter Early Career Award from American Crystallographic Association (ACA).
